Language Mini-Bites

You receive 64 great language activity “cards” arranged into 4 key areas seen as critical for success in the school environment. These include:

• ACTIVE LISTENING : targets instructions and listening for essential information. Other activities in this section address sequencing of ideas and consolidating auditory skills.
• POWERFUL THINKING Language ability is closely linked with thinking. These activities will help students work with information texts, organize their thinking, provide opinions and reasons and reflect on how we can use language to link ideas.
• WORD WONDER Vocabulary development is fundamental to classroom success. These activities will help students develop flexibility and specificity with vocabulary, and build a broader knowledge of word meanings.
• QUALITY QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS Students are required to answer many and varied questions during the school day. They need to develop an understanding of the requirements of these questions, and have practice in answering them. They also need opportunities to create their own questions.

HOW TO USE THE RESOURCE:

This is a resource that acts a springboard to exploring language and there is no single, strict way to use it. You can simply print pages as required, or view them on a computer… and your language session is planned!

You can see samples by clicking on the images in the gallery. (Note that when T is written, this is what the teacher is to carry out and when S is written, this is what the student is to do. Some instructions refer to “writing on the board”. If you are not in a classroom setting, simply use a pen and paper or even a small whiteboard.)
